Lanai CHC Live Auction - Keali'i Reichel Concert Live Auction Items
Exciting Items Donated to Live Auction Being Held Prior to the Concert
This beautiful Koa ukulele (One of the auction items at the Sept. 12th Kealii Reichel Concert) was hand-crafted by Lanai resident Warren Osako and given as a gift to support the Lanai Culture & Heritage Center.
Warren says that the experience of growing up in this small island community has given him a sense of respect for the land and its unique resources. Warren left Lanai to attend the University of Hawaii where he majored in Cultural Anthropology with a concentration in the South Pacific region. After graduating from UH, he continued to live on Oahu, but he came to Lanai frequently. When he retired, he decided to move back to Lanai where his appreciation of the art and workmanship of these ancient cultures eventually evolved into his own interest in working with wood. Warren creates bowls and ukuleles from local woods. With each piece he strives to produce something that will bring out the beauty of the wood itself which he views as nature’s own art.
This beautiful painting being prepared by Lanai’s premier artist, Mike Carroll (Mike Carroll Gallery), is another one of the special gifts being donated to the Lanai CHC for the live auction to be held just prior to the Kealii Reichel Concert. The painting a work in progress, at the time of the photograph, is based on several historical photos in the collection of the Lanai CHC.
