SUMMARY:Kilo Hōkū STEAM Night
DESCRIPTION:Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center and Lāna‘i High & Elementary School Foundation invite all in the ‘ohana to an evening of Kilo Hōkū\, the Hawaiian ancestral way of observing and reading the stars\, on Wednesday\, September 9. The event will feature visiting expert Leinani Lozi of the International Gemini Observatory/NSF NOIRLab as a guest speaker. The evening will blend STEAM-learning (science\, technology\, English\, arts and math) with traditional Hawaiian knowledge through hands-on activities\, including sky maps\, constellation art\, origami and stargazing. \nFamilies will explore the Hawaiian star compass\, learn the ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i names and stories connected to the night sky\, and discover how constellations appear at different times of the year.
