Kupulau Program
About the Event
Kupulau Festival is a celebration of our ʻāina and honuaola, our living landscape. At the festival, community members are invited to learn more about the important conservation work happening on the island and fun facts like the difference between native, introduced, and invasive species.
First debuted in 2022, our Kupulau Program connects our community back to our ʻāina. It included volunteer stewardship days that invites our community to get involved in caring for our bio-cultural landscape at different culturally and naturally significant sites on Lānaʻi, including at Kānepuʻu Native Dryland Preserve, the Koa Forest Restoration, and at Hiʻi Agricultural Heiau.
Our volunteer days culminated with our Kupulau Festival, a celebration of our ʻāina and honuaola, our living landscape. At the festival, community members were invited to learn more about the important conservation work happening on the island and fun facts like the difference between native, introduced, and invasive species.
After visiting our informational booths, community members were able to take home free native plants to grow in their home gardens, a reminder of our fragile ecosystem and how beautiful restoring our native species can be.
