Help Protect Lānaʻi’s History for Generations to Come
November 2026 — Lānaʻi Culture & Heritage Center needs the community’s help to raise funds for a new climate-control system that will protect the island’s irreplaceable cultural treasures, family histories and stories for generations to come.
For more than 20 years, Lānaʻi Culture & Heritage Center has welcomed the public to explore the island’s history, offering free museum hours while preserving the stories, artifacts and memories of the people who have called Lānaʻi home.
Within the center’s collections are treasured pieces of everyday life and family history: kimonos passed down through generations, historic photographs, plantation-era documents and records, artwork and cultural artifacts entrusted to the center for safekeeping. Each offers a glimpse into the lives of the people and families who shaped Lānaʻi.
These collections are more than objects. They are connections to the past that help future generations understand where they come from and the people, traditions and experiences that have shaped their island.
Today, these irreplaceable pieces of Lānaʻi’s history need our help.
An Urgent Need to Protect Lānaʻi’s Treasures
Preserving historical collections requires more than keeping them on a shelf. Fragile photographs, documents, textiles and other materials need carefully controlled temperature and humidity to prevent deterioration.
Unfortunately, the center’s climate-control system has reached the end of its useful life. Without reliable temperature and humidity control, some artifacts have already experienced mildew and mold, putting these irreplaceable materials at risk of further damage.
Once a historic photograph, family heirloom, or fragile document is damaged beyond repair, the stories it holds may be lost forever.
Replacing the climate-control system is expected to cost more than $60,000. This is an essential investment in protecting the collections entrusted to the center’s care and ensuring that Lānaʻi’s history remains accessible to future generations.
We cannot do this alone. We need your help to make this project possible.

A generous group of donors, including the Stupski Foundation, has pledged $30,000 in matching funds to support the Lānaʻi Heritage Preservation Fund.
This matching contribution gives our community an opportunity to make an even greater impact. As we raise funds for the new climate-control system, these pledged matching funds will help us reach our fundraising goal.
Our goal is to raise the money needed to replace the aging system and create a safer environment for the center’s collections. Every donation brings us closer to that goal and helps put this critical preservation project within reach.
